Content design, SEO and UX for charities
I believe in person-centred content. That means putting your users first. It means creating content that helps and informs, as well as content that converts. I am a content specialist but in many ways that also means I’m a content generalist. I am experienced in content design, content development, SEO and UX. I’ve worked on large, complex website redevelopments and small, single-page updates.

What is content design?
Content design is a user-centred approach to content, based on data and evidence, to give people what they need, when they need it and how they expect it. It means putting users at the heart of your content. It involves research, testing and iteration.

Content design is often thought about in terms of online. But content design is just as important in the real world as well.

What is SEO?
SEO, or search engine optimisation, is about helping your audience find their content. It means structuring and presenting your content in a way that helps it rank well in search engines, like Google. There are three types of SEO: technical, on-page and off-page.
I work particularly in on-page SEO, that’s things like optimising your page structure, using appropriate headings, and creating ‘information gain’. But I can also help with some technical and off-page elements too.

What is UX?
UX stands for user experience – and it means just that. How users experience your content, webpage or other product. For charities, that might be the journey through your donate funnel or helping people navigate through essential information and advice. It includes things like design features, templates, journeys, transitions as well as content, signposting and CTAs.

Why work with me?
I’ve been working online for 15+ years. In that time, a lot has changed. But one thing has stayed the same: the importance of users. Your audience, whoever they may be, are key to effective content design, SEO or UX.
I’ve worked on large, complex website redevelopments project managing the rewriting and creation of hundreds of pages for the NSPCC, Childline, RTPI and SafeLives. I’ve also written a lot of that content.

I’ve helped a number of charities with SEO and UX. This includes things like:

-
research and content creation for new topics and website sections
-
optimising existing pages
-
implementing SEO recommendations
-
carrying out and applying keyword research
-
reviewing UX and providing recommendations for improvements

I’ve provided an extra pair of hands during busy times, as well as dedicated support for one-off projects.
I’ve also provided training, to help upskill individuals and teams so that you can carry on the good content work in-house.
What will it cost?
I work in two ways: on a project-basis and as an ‘extra pair of hands’.

For projects, I’ll discuss what you need and will give you a cost specific to that project based on the time you need. It’s an all-inclusive cost which means you get my skills and expertise for the time your project takes, even if I disappear down a rabbit hole of research.

As an ‘extra pair of hands’, you book a specified number of days that you can use however you wish, over an agreed time period. This can be particularly helpful when you’re recruiting or going through an especially busy time and aren’t quite sure what help you need yet. I can help out with content upload, creation, editing, SEO, UX – whatever is most helpful to you.
As charities I’ve worked with will attest, I really love building webpages so there’s no job too small!
